Children & Young Performers

Spotlight features casting details for 5500 + children from the UK's leading theatre schools and agencies. It is the UK's definitive database of performers aged 5-20 and the best way for any young performer to promote themselves to casting opportunities.

Only children who are represented by an agent or who attend full-time stage schools are eligible for Spotlight membership, which is why it is the most trusted database of its kind within the casting community.

How does Spotlight membership work?

Each child has their own web page on www.spotlight.com, with full information about their skills, previous credits and appearance. They can also feature a range of photos, voice-clips and a showreel – all of which are very popular with casting professionals.

Their casting details are fully searchable, so, for example, a casting professional could look for 'a child performer aged 6-8, who has red hair and is highly skilled at ballet'. Thousands of casting professionals (including the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Sky) locate artists online in this way.

Your child’s photograph and school / agent contact details will also be included in the Children and Young Performers book, which comes out once a year in May. Spotlight distributes copies free of charge to key industry professionals UK and worldwide. The book is split into two separate but companion volumes: the first volume containing children under 16, the second, Young Performers, containing those aged 16-20.

The Spotlight Link

Your child’s details will also become part of The Spotlight Link: an online job information service, used daily by casting professionals to email their latest casting and audition information to schools / agents.

Recent productions cast via The Spotlight Link have included such films as The Chronicles of Narnia and The Nutcracker; stage productions Billy Elliot, The Lion King, High School and Dick Whittington (Pantomine); television series such as My Family, Waterloo Road, Eastenders and Skins; and commercials for McDonalds, Heinz and Bisto – to name but a few!

As soon as your child is a member of Spotlight, their agent / school will be able to suggest them for similar productions.

Who keeps information up to date?

Using a unique PIN number, your child's school or agency can update your child's web page at any time, and from any location. For example, they can add new credits, swap around photos or update physical characteristics: very important for children whose appearance can change so quickly.  Spotlight can also make changes to web pages on their / your behalf.

How do I know my child's details are safe?

Our distribution lists are carefully monitored to ensure that only industry professionals have access to our directories. Similarly, our website is password protected and only available to vetted casting and production teams. We never print or disclose personal contact details.

How can my child join?

Parents should speak to their child's school or agent to arrange Spotlight membership, or email info@spotlight.com

How much does it cost?

Membership for child artists is £84.00 (inc. VAT) for a whole year in Spotlight. That's less than £1.65 per week!

"We have had an amazing year thanks to Spotlight. We have one student in a lead for a Yorkshire Television series. One student in the lead of Aladdin in Edinburgh this Christmas. I have one shortlisted for a lead in a BBC radio play and another due for audition for a small role in 'The Royal'." - Paula Danholm, Principal of Oscar's College, 2004
